If you have any questions, please call the Director in Charge at the number above. All the decisions of the Judge are final.

  • All exhibits must be the bonafide work of the exhibitor to be eligible for a prize.
  • All Juniors entering must compete in the current school grade for 2010. All entry tags MUST be fastened securely to the exhibit.
  • Remember – Exhibitors’s name should not be visible in the front of the item
  • When there are less than six (6) entries per section, prizes will be given to only those whom the judge considers worthy of a prize.
  • All judges are qualified in their field and are independent of the Carp Agricultural Society. Decisions of the judge are final and cannot be challenged.
  • Entries under “INDIVIDUAL PROJECTS SECTION” should NOT be entered under a school exhibitor’s number. Rather those individuals entering the sections 30-58 MUST REGISTER at the Carp Agricultural Society Office to receive their own personal exhibitor’s number. Exhibitors aged 13 and over are required to pay a membership to the Carp Agricultural Society; in exchange it is customary they also receive a pass for admission to the Fair.

The Theme for the 2011 CARP FAIR “Fun on the Farm”


PLEASE NOTE:
Only registered schools may enter these classes. If your school is not participating in these classes, you are not eligible to enter, BUT you MAY enter the INDIVIDUAL SECTIONS.

IT IS IMPORTANT THAT YOU ADHERE TO THE SET RULES AND REGULATIONS TO AVOID DISAPPOINTMENT.

*** READ THE INSTRUCTIONS AND SIZE DIMENSIONS CAREFULLY.
BUT IF NO SIZE IS SPECIFIED, THEN THE CHOICE IS YOURS.

JUNIOR KINDERGARTEN

1. Use crayons only – draw a picture of your family
on paper (8 ½ x 11) (21.5cm x 28cm).
2. Create a farm animal page from a colouring book using crayons
3. Create a finger painting on paper 22cm x 30cm (9”x 12”)

SENIOR KINDERGARTEN

4. Make a construction paper sunflower and decorate with sunflower seeds on (8½” x 11”) (21.5cm x 28cm)
5. Create a necklace with a paper apple pendant (pendant can be coloured/painted/made of construction paper)
6. Create an apple by stuffing a paper bag and paint it to decorate

GRADE ONE

7. Create a hole in a paper plate and decorate it to become a picture frame (do not include a picture)
(21.5 cm x 28 cm) piece of paper.
8. Create a fall scene, sponge painted on black construction paper 22cm x 30cm (9” x 12”)
9. Make a farm animal puppet using a paper lunch bag.

GRADE TWO

10. Create a bookmark with a farm or rural theme.
11. Draw picture of yourself on 8½” x 11” piece of paper.
12. Print the sentence: I Like _______ at the Carp Fair (fill in anything you like about the fair) repeat (3) times, double spaced on ½ foolscap.

GRADE THREE

13. Draw a picture of a farm, include at least 3 different farm animals
14. Using a warm or cool colour scheme – create a homemade invitation to a birthday party.
15. A Venn diagram comparing rural with urban communities (minimum of 3 points in each section of the diagram)
on 8 ½ x 11.

GRADE FOUR

16. “My Very Best Printing” -all of the provinces and territories of Canada. Double spaced in English – spelling is important.
17. Create a leaf rubbing picture on 8½” x 11″
18. Wrapping paper for any occasion, designed from one side of a large brown paper bag. Create a pattern design using a minimum of 3 attributes and repeat the pattern 5 times

GRADE FIVE

19. Create a diorama in a shoe box depicting a rural setting.
20. Write a persuasive paragraph about why people should visit the Carp Fair.
21. Create a recycled necklace – use pages from catalogues and magazines – tear pages into strips(roll over toothpicks and glue ends to form “beads”) once beads are dried, use floss to thread beads,

GRADE SIX

22. Decorate 4 golf or ping pong balls as farm animals and display them in an egg carton
23. Write a newspaper article about the importance of farming to the Canadian economy.
24. Create a split picture by cutting a magazine picture in half and re-creating the missing half (should be mounted on 8½” x 11”

GRADE SEVEN

25. Draw a logo for a sports team – can be an existing team or a proposed team on 8½” x 11”
26. Create a poster advertising a Santa Clause Parade on card stock 22” x 28” (55.8cm x 71.1cm).
27. Write an article on which “Canadian Rural Community” is the best to live in, in 100 words or less in your best “Handwriting”
Remember to include the 5 W’S

GRADE EIGHT SECTION

28. Write a biography of a Great Canadian Inventor in 100 words or less in your best handwriting.
29. Decorate an old hockey or ringette stick.
30. Create a poster to advertise the Series “Glee” on a half piece of Bristol board (on any colour page)must include a picture, cast and an “eye” catching teaser.

SPECIALS

SPECIAL SCHOOL PROJECT – NO INDIVIDUALS PLEASE!

31. Paint a “twin bedsheet” to show your school’s “Spirit”
Prize money donated to your School’s Visual Arts Department or Library Fund.

Prize Money: 1st $ 75.00, 2nd $ 45.00, 3rd $ 30.00.

JUNIOR, INTERMEDIATE, SENIOR POSTER COMPETITION

Entry Rules:

1. “Promoting Your Fair” – Name and date of fair must be clearly shown on poster
2. Must be hand drawn
3. Poster size: Minimum – 8 ½” x 11” (23 cm x 28cm) without border – Maximum – 11” x 17” (28cm x 44cm), without border
4. Each entry must be mounted on a Black Art Card or Bristol Board to showing a 2” border
5. Name of Fair, district, contact person, owner of poster and school to be clearly labelled on the back of each entry
6. The winning poster from each class at each fair will be eligible to enter the district competition. District winners are eligible to enter at the provincial competition.
7. Limited to ONE entry per class per DISTRICT. Each district to hold a competition prior to 2011 Convention
8. Entries to be delivered to the Craft Room on Friday morning of the convention between 7:30 a.m. – 8:30 a.m. Judging will commence at 9:00 a.m. Posters must be picked up between 5:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. Friday evening.

NOTE: Ontario Association of Agricultural Societies will not be responsible for lost items

1) Overall appearance – 20 points
2) Attract and hold attention – 30 points
3) Competition theme clear – 40 points

AGES UP TO (2) YEARS

32. Create a finger painting on 8½” x 11” piece of paper
33. Paint with a piece of fruit or vegetable on 8½” x 11”

AGES 3 & 4 YEARS

34. Create a mask from a paper plate – decorate it to fit your face (adults to assist with cutting holes)
35. Colour a colouring page (approx 8½ x 11)

AGES 5 & 6 YEARS

36. Make a barn out of recycled materials (not to exceed 12” in height, displayed on approx 8½ x 11 piece of cardboard)
37. Turn an apple into a face – display on a paper plate
38. Make an edible necklace using vegetables. Place in a Ziploc.

AGES 7 & 8 YEARS

39. Dress a teddy bear as a farmer
40. Leaf rubbings using fall coloured wax crayons – a minimum of 3 different types of leaves on a piece of paper (8 ½ x 11)
41. Create a collage of fruits & vegetables (pictures) on Bristol Board (11” x 14”)

AGES 9 & 10 YEARS

42. Draw your family tree and label it (go back 5 generations) on Bristol Board 11” x 14”
43. Create a poster advertising the “Horse Pull” that will take place at the 2011 Carp Fair (remember to include the 5 W’s) on card stock 22” x 28”
44. Decorate around a cabbage head with 5 different vegetables (securely attached)

AGES 11 & 12 YEARS

45. Make a picture of a farm animal using “Paperoni” or “Quilling”, display on 8½” x 11”
46. Create wrapping using a stamp (stamp to be created using vegetable from your garden)on 10’ x 10” piece of brown paper
47. Decorate any hat anyway (use your imagination)

AGES 13 & 14 YEARS
48 Decorate a pair of Jeans anyway
49. Create a scrap-booking page of a travel destination or trip
50. Create a word search using the theme “Carp Fair”, must include at least 20 search words (to be listed on the back) in a “8½ x 14”.

AGES 15 & UP

51. Wrap a small Christmas Gift
52. Create a Thanksgiving Table centrepiece using articles from your garden (No larger than 10” in diameter)

53. Mother’s Day Basket – To include handmade items, one each of a Mother’s day card, plate of cookies, a flower out of tissue paper and a handmade picture in a frame, all displayed nicely in a basket.

HUNTLEY TOWNSHIP HISTORICAL SOCIETY SPECIAL

AGES 11 YEARS AND UNDER

54. A model of an 1850 to 1900 Huntley Township farm house made of appropriate materials. Labelled, displayed on cardboard or Bristol board base, not to exceed 20” x 24”. Include objects from the interior of the Farmhouse. Include brief written information about the types building materials used during that time period.

AGES 12 YEARS AND OLDER

55. Write a historical-fiction 800 word essay titled “A Day in The Life of a Farmer and His Wife in the Huntley Township Area 1850 to 1900. Include a bibliography of resources used. Please submit 2 copies, one for Huntley Township Historical Society records.

ANGLICAN PARISH OF HUNTLEY SPECIAL
